Cookies Policy
Last updated:
This policy describes the cookies and similar technologies that reader.me uses, in compliance with Article 22.2 of Spanish Law 34/2002 (LSSI-CE), the AEPD Cookie Guide and ePrivacy. We use the minimum strictly necessary for security plus optional analytics that need your explicit consent. Zero advertising, zero commercial tracking.
1. What are cookies
Cookies are small text files that a website places in your browser to remember information between visits — preferences, security state, analytics. They are universal on the web and not all cookies are equal: some are strictly necessary, others are entirely optional and require explicit consent.
reader.me uses only a minimal and strictly functional set. The PDF tools themselves use zero cookies — all processing happens locally in your browser.
2. Cookies we use
We classify the cookies into three states:
- Strictly necessary — required for the site to function securely. Exempt from consent under LSSI-CE.
- Cookieless analytics (default) — without your consent we use Google Consent Mode v2. Google Analytics receives an anonymous, aggregated ping (visit counter, no
client_id, no_ga/_ga_*cookies). This mode is recognised by the Spanish DPA and the EDPB as compliant with ePrivacy because no information is stored in or read from your terminal. - Analytics with cookies (optional, opt-in) — only if you click Accept cookies in the banner we set the standard
_ga/_ga_*cookies. You can revoke this anytime.
3. Strictly necessary cookies
These cookies are essential for security and basic operation. Under Article 22.2 LSSI-CE they do not require consent. They are set by Cloudflare (our CDN and DDoS protection) and apply to every visitor.
| Cookie | Provider | Purpose | Duration |
|---|---|---|---|
__cf_bm | Cloudflare | Bot protection and DDoS attack mitigation. | 30 min |
cf_clearance | Cloudflare | Browser security verification (challenge clearance). | 30 min |
4. Optional analytics cookies
If — and only if — you accept analytics, the following Google Analytics 4 cookies are set. Privacy measures we apply: IP anonymization on, no advertising features (ad_storage, ad_user_data and ad_personalization are permanently set to denied), maximum 14-month retention on Google's side, no cross-domain sharing.
| Cookie | Provider | Purpose | Duration |
|---|---|---|---|
_ga | Google Analytics 4 | Assigns a random identifier for unique-user counting. | 2 years |
_ga_HCEXJH2TBN | Google Analytics 4 | Maintains the browsing session state for this property. | 2 years |
5. Other local storage technologies
Beyond cookies we use the following browser storage APIs, all staying entirely on your device:
- LocalStorage — stores small, durable values on your device only: language preference (
rm-locale-user-set), theme (reader-theme), recently visited tools for the /offline page (rm-visited), and your consent decision (rm-consent= granted or denied). Never transmitted to any server. - Service Worker — caches the static site assets (HTML, CSS, JS, fonts, WebAssembly modules) so reader.me works offline after the first visit. No document data cached.
- RAM — your PDFs are processed exclusively in RAM and discarded when you close the tab. Not written to disk, IndexedDB or LocalStorage.
Although rm-consent is a LocalStorage entry rather than a cookie, we list it here for full transparency because Article 22.2 LSSI-CE applies to any information stored in your terminal.
6. How to manage cookies
You have several options:
- Consent banner — shown on first visit. Accept or reject the analytics cookies with one click. Either choice is equally easy.
- Change your decision at any time — use the button at the end of this page; it clears the saved choice and the banner will reappear on your next page view.
- Browser settings — every modern browser lets you block, delete or be warned about cookies on a per-site basis: Chrome, Firefox, Safari, Edge.
Rejecting analytics cookies does not affect any PDF tool — they all work identically.
7. Changes to this policy
We may update this policy to reflect legislative, technical or service changes. The "Last updated" date above indicates the version. We recommend reviewing it periodically.
