What is PDF/A and why do I need it?
PDF/A (ISO 19005) is the international standard for long-term document archiving. Government agencies, law firms and libraries often require PDF/A submissions because they guarantee that the file will render identically in 30 years — no missing fonts, no broken external references, no expired encryption.
Which PDF/A flavor does this tool produce?
PDF/A-2b — modern subset (PDF 1.7 baseline) with the strict visual-reproducibility (Level B) profile. Validates against veraPDF when the input is well-formed.
Why does the text become unselectable?
We rasterize each page to a JPEG so the output is guaranteed PDF/A-compliant regardless of what the input contains (missing fonts, transparency, CMYK images, etc.). If you need selectable text in the archive, run OCR on the result first.
Will my PDF be uploaded to a server?
No. Rasterization happens entirely in your browser via PDF.js, the new PDF is built with pdf-lib, and the sRGB ICC profile is bundled with the app. Zero network calls.
Is the embedded ICC profile licensed for redistribution?
Yes. We bundle the IEC sRGB IEC61966-2.1 profile authored by Hewlett-Packard / Microsoft and contributed to the ICC standard — the same profile that ships with every modern OS (macOS, Windows, Linux). Freely redistributable.
